Kelly Shannon is the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Cyber and Counterintelligence Branch of the FBI Tampa Field Office. In her previous capacity as a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in Tampa, she oversaw domestic terrorism investigations, weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and threat-reactive matters for the office, which are part of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. She previously served as a Unit Chief in the FBI WMD Directorate at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, and as a field agent at Washington Field Office, where she responded to and investigated domestic terrorism, WMD cases, and critical incidents such as the Holocaust Museum shooting and the Washington Navy Yard mass shooting. Prior to her FBI career, SSA Shannon was a commissioned Surface Warfare Officer (LT/O-3) in the U.S. Navy serving on three warships and two deployments to the Arabian Gulf. She also served as a program analyst in the Pentagon’s Office of Nuclear Matters, conducted infectious disease research at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, and is a published author in research journals and with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Health degree from San Diego State University.
