Lord is a regular contributor to Bit9’s blog and on Twitter (@deteriorata), often going deep behind the headlines to examine systems form an attacker’s and defender’s perspective such as in The Truth About RAM Scrapers and Anatomy of a Server Attack. He has written about security topics in trade publications.
Prior to joining Bit9, Lord worked across a wide range of technologies that underpin many of today’s systems. He was a Microsoft development lead and program manager for the virtualization technologies he helped design and build while at Softricity. As a graduate researcher at CERT, he worked on emergent algorithms and their applicability to cybersecurity resiliency and survivability. Earlier in his career, Lord developed exascale storage virtualization at Cereva (now EMC), fault-tolerant networking at Marathon (now Stratus), Internet search at AltaVista, and enterprise networking at the former Digital Equipment Corporation. Lord holds a patent in resilient networking.
He earned a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Fitchburg State University.
