In his current role, Tyler leads IRS-CI’s field operations for the Central and Southern Districts of California. The Los Angeles Field Office is also home to the Western Cyber Crimes Unit. The Los Angeles Field Office covers the largest population center in the United States.
Tyler began his career with IRS-CI in 2002 as a Special Agent in Utah where he investigated tax, money laundering, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and related criminal violations specializing in international tax investigations and organized crime. Tyler led the Financial Crimes Taskforce and Utah Financial Investigative Team in Salt Lake City, UT, which specialized in using Bank Secrecy Act data to identify and investigate significant white collar and narcotics related criminal violations. In 2009, Tyler was promoted to the role of Senior Analyst in Washington, DC, where he was assigned to Global Financial Crimes and later to International Operations. As a Senior Analyst, Tyler oversaw the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure program and assisted in establishing the International Organized Crime Intelligence and Operations Center (IOC2).
Tyler entered management in 2011 when he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in Boise, ID. Tyler led IRS-CI’s investigative mission in the state of Idaho as part of the Denver Field Office. Following his work in Boise, Tyler was selected as the first Country Attaché in The Netherlands in 2014. Tyler covered Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as IRS-CI’s representative to Europol. Tyler returned to the Salt Lake City, UT office where he served as Special Agent and then as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Las Vegas Field Office until October 2020. Tyler then served as Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Field Office and the St. Louis Field Office from 2020 to 2022.
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tyler is an avid outdoorsman and loves to fly fish, backpack and hike. Tyler holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Weber State University.
