Tom Fattorusso is the Special Agent in Charge of IRS: Criminal Investigation’s (CI) New York Field Office, covering New York State—from the 5 Boroughs and Long Island up to the New York-Canadian border. Tom was named to this position in March 2022 and reports directly to the Director of Field Operations for the Northern Area.

Tom is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating activities of Criminal Investigation employees throughout the state. He oversees CI New York’s critical mission to serve the American public by investigating potential criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code and related financial crimes in a manner that fosters assurance in the tax system and compliance with the law.

During his 20-year career in law enforcement, Tom worked CI priority cases involving income tax evasion and other related financial crimes, including: fraud in legal industries, illegal industries, narcotics related financial crimes, and terrorism financing. He also managed investigations involving tax, money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act violations.

As Special Agent in Charge, Tom leads CI Special Agents and support staff throughout New York to ensure that through systematic, substantial investigations and the prosecution of significant financial crimes through the U.S. Attorney’s Offices, CI can generate the maximum deterrent effect, enhance voluntary compliance, and promote public confidence in the tax system.

Tom became a special agent in 2002 and held management positions that included Supervisory Special Agent in Albany, New York; Assistant Special Agent in Charge in New York, New York; Director, Special Investigative Techniques in Washington, D.C.; Acting Deputy Director, Operations, Policy and Support in Washington, D.C.; and Special Agent in Charge in Philadelphia, PA.

Tom holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame in Notre, Dame, IN.
