John Carlson has extensive experience in cybersecurity and other aspects of operational risk, regulatory compliance, public affairs, strategic planning, and management. Carlson serves as the vice president of cybersecurity regulation and resilience at the American Bankers Association (ABA). Prior to joining the ABA, Carlson served as the global financial services industry lead for security assurance at Amazon Web Services (AWS) where he developed a strategy for addressing regulatory challenges for financial services sector, drafted comment letters to regulatory agencies, and sponsored academic research. Prior to AWS, Carlson served as the chief of staff of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), executive vice president of BITS, and managing director of operational risk at Morgan Stanley. Carlson also served in a variety of roles in the public sector including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Carlson received a Masters of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a BA from the University of Maryland.
